Baked Garlic is wonderful for an Italian feast or for any feast, for that matter.  Baking garlic brings out its sweeter, nuttier flavors.  These are great speard on toasted French bread or on Toasted Garlic Bread with butter.  The paste is great for salad dressings, and sauces, especially home made ones.  Press out these baked cloves in a dish with olive oil with Italian spices and you have a great bread dip!  These are also great with stilton cheese.  Yumm!!

Ingredients:
4 large garlic bulbs
1T of olive oil
Dried Thyme
butter
salt and pepper to taste
Garlic Baker Dish

  • Remove loose outer skin.  Cut off top of each bulb so that each clove is open.
  • Pierce cloves for steam release.
  • Drizzle with olive oil and dot with butter.
  • Sprinkle with thyme, salt and pepper.
  • Arrange bults in Garlic Baker Dish and cover with domed lid
  • If using microwave, cook at full power for 4 minutes.  Cook a few seconds longer if you want softer consistency.  Let cool.
  • If using convenction oven, place Garlic Baker Dish in cold oven.  Bake at 300 degrees F for 1 hour.  Remove cover and bake for an additional 20 minutes or until garlic is tender and husks are golden brown.  Baste occasionally with olive oil.
